2.1 Definitions of terms

2.1.1 Terms

Control Hierarchy:

In OSEC, production system is classified functionary into following 7 processing layers . These layers are called as control hierarchy .

  1. Machine level (machine tools, robots,etc)
  2. Servo/Mechanical Actuator level (amp,motor,electric,hydrauric actuators)
  3. Axis/Device control level ( single axis control,discrete I/O control,etc)
  4. Motion/Event control level( combined motion/event control )
  5. Machining Process control level(part program interpretation,operation mode control, etc.)
  6. Operation Planning level(planning of machining sequence, tooling, fixture, cutting conditions,etc.)
  7. Design level(CAD, workpiece design, production schedule design,etc.)

Coordination Controller:

Upper level of controller corresponding to the cell controller of ISO reference model. FA Equipments such as the machine tools,robots and work transfer equipments are coordinated through this controller to keep production line optimal.

Distributed Manufacturing Systems:

Manufacturing systems connected ditributedly through computer network, in which each module performs it's clearly defined function, corporating with other modules through open information interface protocols.

Interface Protocols:

Open protocols defined to connect informations between each layers(levels).

Numerical Controller:

An electronic control system designed to perform the numerical control functions of manufacturing or other process. It is usually consists of acomputer, file store(s),both analogue and digital input and output interfaces, and one or more operator interface device(s).

Open Architecture:

Systems in which processing function of each hierarchy lebel is clearly defined, and information protocols to connect each layers are open to public,and not restricted to specific software or hardware.
